Bradford Parent Partnership Service

The Bradford Parent Partnership Service (SEN) is a service for all parents/carers of children and young people who have, or may have, special educational needs.  If you think your child needs extra help at school, the Parent Partnership Service offers independent advice, support and information.

The service is jointly funded by Barnardo's and Education Bradford, with advice support from parents and voluntary organisations across the Bradford district.

  • Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) - Independent advisory centre for parents, offering information about state education in England and Wales for 5-16 year olds including advice on subjects such as, exclusion from school, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals.
  • AFASIC - Association for all Speech Impaired Children. UK charity, established in 1968, to help children and young people with speech difficulties, their families and the professionals working with them.
  • ASBAH - Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Registered charity working with people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, their families and carers to promote individual choice, control and quality of life.
  • Asthma UK - The new name for the National Asthma Campaign.  Asthma UK offer advice and information to parents, children and young people and professionals.
  • Barnardos - helps most vulnerable children & young people transform their lives and fulfill their potential.  
  • British Institute of Learning Difficulties - (BILD) Committed to improving the quality of life for people with a learning disability. 
  • British Deaf Association - Contains latest information about the British Deaf Association, British Sign Language and the Deaf community.
  • British Dyslexia Association -  The BDA's role has been raising awareness of the evidence and effects of dyslexia. They now also aim to develop and encourage services that meet the needs of dyslexic people.
  • British Institute for Brain Injured Children (bibic) - Helping children with a learning difficulty to reach their full potential. 
  • Child Care Link - National and local Childcare information.
  • Children's Trust    (The) - National charity working with children who have multiple disabilities and complex health needs.
  • Cochlear Implanted Children's Support Group (CICS) - Formed to help those whose children already have implants and those who are thinking about an implant for their child.
  • Contact a Family -  Contact a Family (CaF) is the only UK charity providing support and advice to parents whatever the medical condition of their child.
  • DfES - Department for Education and Skills. Aim is to give children an excellent start in education, enable young people to equip themselves with life and work skills, and encourage adults to achieve their full potential through learning.
  • Direct Gov  - Special educational needs information for disabled children to learn in a suitable environment. 
  • Down Syndrome Association - Providing information, counselling and support for people with Down's syndrome, their families and carers, as well as being a resource for interested professionals.
  • Dyspraxia Foundation - UK charity which exists to help people to understand and cope with dyspraxia. Resource for parents, teenager and adults who have the condition, and for professionals who help all of them.
  • Early Support - This website provides information, news and up-dates on Early Support (previously known as the Early Support Pilot Programme), a UK government initiative to improve services for disabled children under three and their families. The website promotes multi-agency working and is for anyone who works regularly with very young children and their families. There is also information for families - click on the 'For families' link to find out more. Early Support involves the UK Department for Education and Skills (DfES), Sure Start and the Department of Health. It supports families and people working for education, health, social services and the voluntary sector.
  • Elizabeth Foundation - Voluntary organisation for deaf babies, pre-school deaf children from 0-5 years, and their parents. Nationwide services for children with a hearing loss.
  • Every Child Matters - Change for Children.  Every Child Matters - Change for Children is a new approach to the well being of children and young people from birth to age 19.  The Government's aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:  be healthy; stay safe; enjoy and achieve; make a positive contribution; achieve economic well-being.  This means that the organisations involved in providing services to children - from hospitals and schools, to police and voluntary groups - will be teaming up in new ways, sharing information and working together, to protect children and young people from harm and help them achieve what they want in life.  Children and young poeple will have far more say about issues that affect them as individuals and collectively.
  • Face 2 Face - Network of trained volunteer befrienders who can help parents make positive adjustments to the news that their child has a disability.
  • Family Fund (The) - largest independent grant-giving organisation helping families in the UK caring for severely disabled or seriously ill children.
  • HemiHelp - Information and support to children and young people with hemiplegia, to their families or carers and to  the professionals who work with them.
  • Hi2u - for people with hidden impairments.  Centred around ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome, Dyslexia and similar neurological differences.
  • I Can - Charity which helps children with speech and language difficulties.
  • Kids - National charity dedicated to helping children & young people with disabilities & special needs develop their skills & abilities & to realise their potential.
  • MENCAP - working with people with a learning disability and their families and carers.
  • National Autistic Society - championing the rights & interests of all people with autism.
  • National Deaf Children's Society - NDCS is an organisation of parents, families and carers which exists to support parents in enabling their child to maximise their skills and abilities.
  • National Family and Parenting Institute - independent charity working to support parents in bringing up their children.
  • National Parent Partnership Network - An information and advice service on parent partnership issues.
  • National Portage Association - Home-visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs and their families.
  • NCH - supports most vulnerable children, young people and their families so they have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
  • National Society for Epilepsy - committed to providing information and support to people with epilepsy, their families, friends and professionals involved in their care.
  • OfSTED - Office for Standards in Education. Ofsted is a non-ministerial government department established under the Education (Schools) Act 1992 to take responsibility for the inspection of all schools in England. Its role also includes the inspection of local education authorities, teacher training institutions and youth work. During 2001, Ofsted became responsible for inspecting all 16-19 education and for the regulation of early years childcare, including childminders.
  • Parent Centre - The Parent Centre is for all parents and carers who want to help their child or children to learn. It is there to offer you support, information and advice about your child's learning and the English education system.
  • RNIB - Royal National Institute of the Blind. UK's leading charity offering information, support and advice to over two million people with sight problems.
  • RNID - Royal National Institute for the Deaf - largest charity representing the 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK.
  • SENSE - UK's leading organisation for people who are deafblind or have associated disabilities.
  • Scope - disability organisation whose focus is people with cerebral palsy.
  • Surestart - Government programme to deliver the best start in life for every child.  This site contains a wealth of information not just focused on very young children.
  • Talking Point - first stop for information about speech, language and communication difficulties in children.
